When on the jobsite, solutions to problems are rarely as clean and simple as they are at workbench. Even with careful measuring and preplanning, the need for a clear, reliable marker may crop up as one works. Sawdust, sand, stone chippings, and sheets of thick dust are common obstacles midway through an extensive work project.

Will this pen leave a mark? Possibly. You may even get one or two uses from it before the felt fibers of the nib become clogged with debris. This will make any attempted mark made by the pen so faint and ineffective that there may as well be no mark at all. Certainly not a mark that can be used for accurate measuring and planning.
